Take a glass cylinder. Place eight strings around it. Circle them with eight spinning impulse rings. A tone is generated when an impulse strikes a string.

And it gets weirder from there.

How it works

What makes it Khorlo is the arrangement

Imagine a glass cylinder. Up to eight strings stand around it, each parked at its own position on the circle.

Circling them are up to eight impulse rings, each spinning at a rate you choose. Where an impulse crosses a string, it plucks.

Each ring is free to ride up and down the cylinder. Height is where it grabs the string: high is bright and thin, low is dull and round.

Emergent polyrhythms at one end, resonant voices at the other, and a lot of strange in between.

Change the background, fog, and cylinder color and opacity.

A sophisticated modulation system. Six LFO/Envelope generators, eighteen expression slots and four namable macros. Almost every knob in the instrument is a destination.

The Cold Forge preset: the same instrument in magenta and deep

The Juniper Smoke preset: the same instrument again in green.
Khorlo's modulation strip: four macro knobs, the eight MOD tabs, six
numbered routing slots each with a source and a destination, and an
envelope curve with ADSR and FREE modes.
